The UPSC is India’s authorized agency to conduct various examinations like Civil Services Examination, Engineering Services Examination, Combined Medical Services Examination, Combined Defence Services Examination, National Defence Academy Examination, Naval Academy Examination, Special Class Railway Apprentice, Indian Forest Service examination, Indian Economic Service examination, Indian Statistical Service examination, Combined Geoscientist and Geologist Examination, and Central Armed Police Forces (Assistant Commandant) examination.
Special Class Railway Apprentice (SCRA):- UPSC selects candidates in the Mechanical Engineering undergraduate program at the Indian Railways Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Jamalpur. The candidates are placed in the Railways organizations as Group A officers, after successful completion of training. In the month of June-July, UPSC released the notification for the SCRA examination. As per the Ministry of Railways, now the exam is conducted twice in a year. The paper includes written test, interview and medical examination.
Civil Services Examination:- Large pool of applicant appears for the toughest examination, the Indian Civil Services. This competitive exam is organized for the recruitment of the IFS, IPS and IAS. Candidates ought to clear three stages to join Civil Services i.e. preliminary examination, main examination and interview. The whole process of Civil Services Exam (from notification of the Prelims to the announcement of the final results) takes around one year. The screening test, preliminary exam is held in the month of May-June. After declaration of the result in July-August, the main examination is held in October-November. The final face to face interview is in the month of March-April.
Combined Defence Services:- For recruitment into the Indian Naval Academy, Indian Air Force Academy, Indian Military Academy and Officers Training Academy the Combined Defence Services exam is conducted in the month of February and November. UPSC released notification in the month of June and October. The qualified candidates will be admitted to respective Academies after the final interview with the Services Selection Board. Graduate unmarried candidates are eligible for this examination.
Indian Economic Service/ Indian Statistical Service:- To recruit officers in the planning board, planning commission, national sample survey, ministry of economic affairs and other allied offices the Indian Economic Service/ Indian Statistical Service examination is conducted in the month of November. The notification of the paper is declared in the month of June. After written test candidates must appear for an interview for the personality test.
National Defence Academy:- The National Defence Academy is in Khadakwasla near Pune, Maharashtra. The NDA is the first tri-service academy of the Indian Armed Forces where the Army, the Navy and the Air Force cadets are trained. The selection process includes written test and interview.
Central Armed Police Forces (Assistant Commandant):- The CAPF includes the eight police forces under the central government authority, Central Reserve Police Force, Border Security Force, Indo-Tibetan Border Police, Sashastra Seema Bal, Central Industrial Security Force, Railway Protection Force, National Security Guards.
Combined Medical Services:- The CMS exam is conducted for the recruitment of Medical Officer in various government organisations like Indian Railways and Indian Ordnance Factories. UPSC released exam notification in the month of September and conducts paper in January. The selection process includes objective type written examination of two hours. The shortlisted candidates have to appear for the personality test.
Engineering Services:- The union government on the recommendations made by the UPSC selects the IES officers. These selected civil servants meet the technical and managerial functions of the Indian government. The UPSC conducts Engineering Services Examination, which includes objective as well as descriptive papers.
